The 606 Club @ 50

Many happy returns to the treasured 606 Club in Chelsea which is in the middle of its star-studded 50th birthday celebrations.

This writer has been lucky enough to catch many memorable 606 gigs over the years – Pat Martino, Bill Bruford, Mike Lindup/Phil Gould/Wally Badarou (Level 42), Jason Rebello, Ethan Iverson, Mel Gaynor, amongs many others (check out the Live Reviews tab at the top of this page).

The venue started life in October 1976 as a basement at 606 King’s Road, but has been at its current Lots Road home since 1988. It’s served as a crucial meeting point for musicians and jazz fans alike.

If you’ve never visited, it’s one of the most unique London music venues, cosy and friendly, with excellent acoustics. Plus you get to see some world-class musicians up close. And it’s on one of London’s most brilliantly weird streets, opposite the huge – now defunkt – Lots Road Power Station.

Congratulations to everyone at the 606.
